Lorena Mancilla
Professional Development Outreach Specialist
SALSA Project Manager

Lorena Mancilla is a native of Illinois and has experience teaching at the junior high level. She is the project manager for the SALSA (Spanish Academic Language Standards & Assessment) grant and also supports WIDA's other ongoing professional development efforts as needed.

As a classroom teacher, Lorena worked with junior high ELL students in both bilingual and dual language programs. Upon leaving the classroom, she worked as a member of her district's ELL department and served as the ACCESS for ELLs® Coordinator. She delivered professional development to both teachers and administrators relating to ACCESS for ELLs®, the W-APT™, the WIDA MODEL™ for Kindergarten, and instructional techniques that support language development. Lorena also has experience as an adjunct professor and has taught graduate level ELL courses dealing with assessment, bilingual methods, and multicultural education to pre-service teachers.

Lorena has a Masters in Education from DePaul University in Chicago, IL, and is a doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
