Maureen Keithley
Senior Professional Development Consultant
Maureen Keithley comes to WIDA from the Kentucky Department of Education where she served as a Title III - LEP/Immigrant Consultant. Maureen received her B.S. from Illinois College, Jacksonville and her M.S.Ed. at Western Illinois University, Macomb. In 2003 she became a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT), Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood - English as New Language. Her prior experience as a mainstream teacher, ESL teacher, district Title III coordinator and at the state education agency equips Maureen to have a multi-dimensional approach when providing professional development, technical assistance and consulting to WIDA states.
Every couple of years Maureen travels internationally to one of the home countries of the United States immigrating populations. She feels this provides her greater empathy for our nation's immigrants, both of their culture, language included, and motivation for leaving their homelands. Her travels have taken her with humanitarian and/or educational organizations to Bosnia, China-College Board, 2008, Cuba, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malawi, Mexico, Russia, and Zimbabwe. Most recently, she traveled to Crimea, Ukraine where she split her time between teaching English to students at Commonwealth International University/Zaporozhe National University and working with Mulberry International projects for homeless youth (October 2010).
