WIDA News: September 2017

Yes, the WIDA Conference is Still On!

Like many of you, we were watching hurricane Irma as she stormed up the Florida peninsula. Fortunately, much of the damage was less than projected with worst case scenarios. That means preparations for the WIDA 2017 Annual Conference are continuing to move forward. The big event is just a month away now. Many of you have already locked in your registrations, but there is still a little time to register if you act quickly. In the past, the WIDA conference has reached capacity and we have had to place people on a waiting list. You can avoid the wait list by registering today!

By the way, a great way to prepare for the conference is by looking over the WIDA 2017 Mobile App and bookmarking the sessions you are interested in. The app will also help you connect to friends and peers. Be sure to use the hashtag #WIDA2017

ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Website Resources for 2017–18

There is now a one-stop shop for all resources related to WIDA AMS at wida.us/AMS. The new page includes the WIDA AMS User Guide and some short how-to videos for completing important functions in WIDA AMS.

In addition to the new page, the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 webpage has been updated. The Preparation and Training Tab now reflects the 2017-18 testing season with links to the current Test Administrator's Manual and the District and School Test Coordinator's Manual. Please note that the District and School Test Coordinator's Manual is a preliminary release, and more information related to Materials Ordering and Additional Materials Ordering will be added soon.

You will also notice a new tab: Preparing Students. This is where you can find links to the resources WIDA provides to help educators prepare their students to take ACCESS for ELLs 2.0. New this year: we've released guidance for helping students do their best on the Online Speaking test, customized for grades 1-3, 4-5, and 6-12.

Last, make sure to look at the new Let's Get Going graphic for an overview of essential tasks for preparing to test.
