Alternate ACCESS for ELLs

Audience: Special Education, ELL Teachers, and Program Leaders

The Alternate ACCESS for ELLs is an assessment of English language proficiency (ELP) for students in grades 1-12 who are classified as English language learners (ELLs) and who have significant cognitive disabilities that prevent their meaningful participation in the ACCESS for ELLs assessment. The test is based on Alternate Model Performance Indicators (AMPIs), which provide expectations of what students should be able to process and produce at a given Alternate English Language Proficiency level. 

This workshop has been designed for Special Education and ELL teachers who will be involved in administering the Alternate ACCESS test. Participants will work collaboratively to strengthen their understanding of test administration, to understand the underpinnings of the assessment, and to become aware of the resources available after the workshop.
Participants will:

  • Understand the Alternate ACCESS test participation criteria and administration procedures.
  • Practice administering the test with Alternate ACCESS test materials.
