  1. Will Indiana be administering online or paper ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 in 2015-2016?

Please refer to the table on page 8 of the attached Indiana Guidance.

  2. Will 4th and 5th grade ELLs on the Writing test respond by handwriting or keyboarding?

All students in grades 1-5 will respond to the Writing test using paper/pencil, thus handwritten. Again refer to the table in the attached Indiana Guidance above.

  3. How do I gain access to ACCESS for ELLs training materials?

Access to these materials is tied to a WIDA account. If you don't have a WIDA account or don't have access to the ACCESS for ELLs training materials, please contact your Corporation WIDA Test Coordinator.

  4. How do I gain access to ACCESS for ELLs test administration materials?

Access to these materials is through the WIDA AMS. If you do not have a WIDA AMS account, please contact your Corporation WIDA Test Coordinator.

  5. What am I required to do to be able to administer the ACCESS for ELLs assessment?

For grades 1-12 you will need to login to the WIDA website and work through the components of the Test Administrator Checklist. It can be found under My Account & Secure Portal -> ACCESS For ELLs 2.0 Training -> Online or Paper Grades 1-12. If you are administering the paper Speaking component, you will have to take and pass the Speaking Scoring Training module with a score of 80% or higher.

  6. What am I required to do to be able to administer the Alternate or Kindergarten ACCESS for ELLs assessment?

For Kindergarten or Alternate ACCESS for ELLs, you will need to login to the WIDA website and work through the components of the Test Administrator Checklist, which include a certification quiz. You must receive a score of 80% on the quiz to be certified to administer that assessment.

  7. Do I need to retake trainings or quizzes if I passed them in a previous year?

For ACCESS for ELLs, grades 1-12, all trainings are new. For Kindergarten and Alternate ACCESS for ELLs, the trainings and quizzes have not changed. You will need to take all required trainings for ACCESS for ELLs, grades 1-12. You will not have to re-take trainings for Kindergarten and Alternate ACCESS for ELLs, but a review of the training course is strongly recommended, particularly the speaking portion.

The Indiana Department of Education has created a wealth of resources for educators working with English learners to implement the WIDA English Language Development Standards and the ACCESS for ELLs assessment.  The resources include implementation guides, state and local exemplars, professional development webinars, and training videos.  Please be sure to visit http://www.doe.in.gov/elme often as new resources are continually added.

Indiana is collaborating with the WIDA consortium to provide supports for educators.  The state webinars can be found in the WIDA download library, https://www.wida.us/downloadLibrary.aspx#,  in the State/District Webinars section under Indiana.  Educators that need a log in can contact their corporation testing coordinator or WIDA test administrator.
