  1. Will Michigan be administering online or paper ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 in 2015-2016?

Michigan will be administering both the online and paper/pencil modes of the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 for the Spring 2016 assessment window. Districts and schools that will be administering paper/pencil only should be sure to apply for an Online Testing Waiver. More information about waivers can be found in the September 24, 2015 edition of the Michigan Department of Education's Spotlight on Student Assessment and Accountability.

  2. Will 4th and 5th grade ELLs on the Writing test respond by handwriting or keyboarding?

Students in 4th - 12th grade will have the option to handwrite their responses to the Writing test. More information about Michigan's policies on this topic can be found by contacting the Office of Standards and Assessment (OSA) at baa@michigan.gov or by calling 877-560-8378, Option 5.

  3. What type of training is available for ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 for the three roles of those participating in delivery - Test Administrators, Test Coordinators, Tech Coordinators?

District staff involved in preparing for and administering the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 for the Spring 2016 school year should take advantage of the resources available through WIDA's website. Test Administrators and Test Coordinators should ensure that they receive their Training Certificates by completing all necessary steps through their WIDA Secure Account. Technology Coordinators, Test Administrators and Coordinators should review available materials when they are alerted via email from the Division of Accountability Services, the Michigan Department of Education's Spotlight on Student Assessment and Accountability, or from DRC's Assessment Management System (AMS).

District staff may also check with their Intermediate School District (ISD) or Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) for current training offerings.
