How do I set up my account for the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Test Administrator Training Course?

Teachers who wish to take the Test Administrator Training Course will need to contact their System Test Coordinator in order to obtain the login information. This login information will give teachers access to the Account Creator. At this point teachers will create their own, specific username and password so that they may complete the training course.

Am I required to take the Test Administrator training quizzes to become approved to administer the ACCESS test?

Yes. Log In to take the Test Administrator training quizzes. You must receive a passing score of 80% on all applicable quizzes.

Do I need to retake the training quizzes if I passed them in a previous year?

Once you have completed the training and passed the quizzes, the only continued requirement is the speaking portion of the training and its corresponding quiz must be retaken every 2 years and only if you are administering the MODEL assessment.

Do I need to show proof of my passing quiz grades (80%) from previous years?

No

  1. Will North Dakota be administering online or paper ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 in 2015-2016?

Beginning January 25, 2016, North Dakota's English learners (ELs) will be administered ACCESS for ELLs 2.0, which replaces ACCESS for ELLs. In North Dakota the default administration of The ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 will be administered online. As with other assessments for ELL students, ELL teams have the option to provide modifications which would include a paper-based test for individual students. Included in the online default is grades 1-12 with the exception of grades 1-3 in writing. That will still be handwritten. The kindergarten assessment will also be paper-based. With the online version, Test Administrators no longer score the speaking test and can group administer speaking, as well as reading, writing and listening to multiple students across grade levels. All Test Administrators must still be certified to give the assessments, but they are able to be certified online if they are ONLY giving the online assessments. Any Test Administrator giving a paper-based assessment must have had a face-to-face training.

Alternate ACCESS for ELLs continues to be a paper-based assessment and will continue to be administered to eligible students.

  2. What type of training is available for ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 for the three roles of those participating in delivery – Test Administrators, Test Coordinators, and Technology Coordinators?

WIDA has developed checklists and webinar trainings to provide specific information to support test preparation and administration for ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 in 2015-16. These checklists and trainings are for the following roles:

    1. Technology Coordinator – responsible for all technical and system set up for online testing
    2. Test Coordinator – responsible for the overall coordination or test administration activities
    3. Test Administrator – responsible for administering ACCESS for ELLs 2.0

Administrators of the paper-based test should note that if they are scoring speaking, they must complete the face-to-face training.

The State training schedule is available on the NDDPI website at www.nd.gov/dpi/uploads/48/ellpdchart.pdf.
Registration information is located under the “Events” tab on the NDDPI website www.nd.gov/dpi/Administrators/IME/Programs_Initiatives/ELL/

  3. Will 4th and 5th grade ELLs on the Writing test respond by handwriting or keyboarding?

North Dakota has set the default for 4th and 5th grade students' writing test to keyboarding. If it is the desire of the ELL team to have any student handwrite this portion of the test, that selection must be made in the accommodations for the student in WIDA AMS.
