For 2017-18, Illinois school districts again have the option of using either the online or paper format for ACCESS testing with these exceptions.

  • Kindergarten is paper only
  • Alternate ACCESS is paper only
  • Writing at grades 1-3 is paper only.

For all other ACCESS testing, the default format is online, but paper materials are available. Paper materials are ordered through

Testing sites and user accounts created on WIDA-AMS, for 2016-17 will carry over to 2017-18. Those who are District Coordinators on WIDA-AMS can create new user accounts for others in their district and schools. Illinois has adopted the WIDA Screener for 2017–18 for 2nd semester of 1st grade through grade 12. Illinois is no longer using the W-APT for screening at any grade level. WIDA MODEL should be used for Kindergarten and 1st semester of 1st grade only. Placement criteria are in the table below.
